Read Exodus 34:14

1. Why is jealousy among people normally considered a bad trait, but it is fine for God to be jealous? How is God’s being jealous different from most human jealousy?

Read Isaiah 44:6-11, 17

2. Why was idolatry such a huge problem throughout the Bible? Why do you think God hates idolatry so much?

3. What is the main point of verses 6-8?

4. Why does Isaiah say that “All who fashion idols are nothing”? Why does he say that “the things they delight in do not profit”? (vs 9).

5. Why does Isaiah say that those who make and worship idols will be “put to shame”? (vs 11). Why do you think we experience shame when we worship something other than God?

6. What is the main point of verse 17? What things are we tempted to worship? How do we often look to things other than God to deliver us?
